RACE PREPARATION
HYROX race preparation: Pacing, simulations and race week
HYROX race preparation starts by measuring your current profile, identifying the limiter and combining runs with stations at a sustainable target pace. The final weeks are about arriving ready, not simply accumulating fatigue.
Choose a sustainable race pace
Avoid turning the first kilometre into a time trial. A controlled pace, the ability to settle after each station and energy reserved for the final rounds usually produce a stronger result.
Use simulations carefully
Short combinations can appear weekly, but full simulations have a high recovery cost. Use them selectively and learn from splits, transitions and movement quality.
What to do in race week
Reduce volume, keep brief race-pace touches and prioritize sleep. Confirm shoes, nutrition, travel and check-in logistics before race day.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many days should I rest before HYROX?+
Needs vary, but most athletes reduce volume during the final 5–7 days while retaining short, easy sessions.
What is a good first-race goal?+
Controlled pacing, clean movement standards and a strong finish are better first priorities than an aggressive time target.
