HYROX nutrition: Before, during and after race day
HYROX nutrition should repeat a routine tested in training, not chase a race-morning miracle. Adequate energy, fluids and tolerated carbohydrate support performance.
What to eat before the race
A familiar, carbohydrate-focused meal 2–4 hours before racing often works well. Very large, fatty or high-fibre meals can increase stomach discomfort for some athletes.
Fuel and fluid during the race
Needs depend on duration, sweat rate and conditions. Test water, electrolytes and carbohydrate during training; do not introduce a new product on race day.
Post-race recovery
Fluids and a balanced meal containing carbohydrate and protein support recovery. This is general information; consult a sports dietitian for medical or individual needs.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I drink coffee before HYROX?+
Caffeine may help habitual users, but dose and timing should be tested and medical sensitivities considered.
Do I need a gel during HYROX?+
Not everyone does. It depends on expected duration and tolerance, and should be tested before race day.
